Conferences and Events

The Annual International ALS/MND meetings and biennial MND Australia National Conference offer researchers and health and community professionals the opportunity to share their research and practice with their national and international peers. These events also offer those undertaking MND research and those involved in caring for people living with MND and their families to learn more about the latest developments in MND research and care.

Annual International Alliance of ALS/MND Meetings 

The Annual International Symposium on ALS/MND is organised by the MND Association of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.The International Symposium is the largest medical and scientific conference on ALS/MND. It is the premier event in the ALS/MND research calendar, attracting over 900 delegates, representing the energy and dynamism of the global MND research community.

Each year, a member of the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations serves as the honorary host organisation for the Symposium and the related meetings held on the days prior to the Symposium:

The Annual Meeting of the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations brings together ALS/MND Associations from around the world to share initiatives and develop strategies for fighting ALS/MND

The Ask The Experts is a two-hour, interactive session during which members of the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations, people living with ALS/MND and their carers, and experts on ALS/MND from around the world gather to discuss the latest advances in care and research.  

The Allied Professionals Forum (APF) is a collaboration between the International Alliance and the MND Association of England, Wales and Northern Ireland and supported by Alliance member association ALS Hope. The meeting is a full-day of clinical care presentations for ALS/MND health and social care professionals. 


The 27th International Symposium on ALS/MND will be held in Dublin, Ireland from 7–9 December 2016.

Consecutive meetings for ALS/MND Alliance Members and Allied Health will be held from 4-6 December 2016.

Allied Professionals Forum (APF) - 10 December 2015

The Allied Professionals Forum is focused on practice and experience for health professionals in the care and support of people living with ALS/MND. During the APF, health professionals from around the globe come together to share their practical knowledge and experiences, with a mission to improve the quality of care for people living with ALS/MND worldwide.  

26th International Symposium on ALS/MND - 11-13 December 2015

The 26th Annual International Symposium on ALS/MND is organised by the MND Association of England, Wales and Northern Ireland in cooperation with the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations.

The International Symposium on ALS/MND is a unique annual event which brings together leading international researchers as well as health and social care professionals to present and debate key innovations in their respective fields.

The Symposium is planned as two parallel meetings, one on biomedical science and the other on research and advances in the care and management of people affected by ALS/MND. Joint sessions consider issues of mutual concern, challenging current views and practice.

8th National MND Conference, 12 September 

MND Australia and the State MND Association host organise a National MND Conference every other year. The 7th National MND Conference - Together! Participation, Partnerships, Progress - hosted by MND Queensland, was held on Monday 8 September 2014 at the Mercure Gold Coast Resort. 

MND Victoria were the hosts for the 8th National MND Conference in 2016 held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on 12 September 2016.

A post-conference workshop around the topic of carer and allied health Management of MND was run by Calvary Health Care Bethlehem. 

The theme in 2016 was Care, Collaboration, Communication.
